FIA 11th graders recently took part in the prestigious international team competition (World Scholars Cup) with 180+ students participating from over 10 schools from Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. The World Scholar’s Cup competition was founded in 2006 with the aim to attract students interested in learning beyond the typical school curriculum and to focus on bringing students from different cultures together to discuss issues and ideas relevant to today. The competition involves multiple-choice examinations, debating challenges, critical thinking essay writing, artistic interpretations and literature tests. Jana Maher (11G), Sama Bengawi (11G), Tariq Amjad (11B1), Mohammed Amr Afia (11 B1), Mohamed Amr Hefnawy (11B1), last but not least Ahmed Abdullah Alkwaiti (11B1) are the students who have taken part in the competition and here is a summary of their achievements
  1. Jana Maher (4 Gold medals and 2 silver medals)
  2. Tarq Amjad (3 gold medals and 2 silver medals)
  3. Mohamed Amr Afia (2 gold medals and 3silver medals)
  4. Ahmed Alkwaiti (1 gold medal and 3 silver medals)
  5. Mohamed Amr Hefnawy (2 silver medals)
  6. Sama Bengawi (1 silver medals)
The competition was held over 2 days (Friday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th) with a closing ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Our students passed the Champion level (UAE interschool competitions) which is the first qualifying round. If they do well in the second global round which will be held in Beijing, Astana, Sydney, Manila, The Hague or Dubai, the teams can then advance to the final round. The final round is held at Yale University in the US. Hopefully they will do. The best part of the 6 -part competition was the debate part which our teams won 4 out of 6 of them and one of the 2 teams won 3 out of 3 competitions. Out of all participants, our student Tariq Amjad was chosen as one of the best 8 debaters in the competition and our student Jana Maher was qualified to be among 6 best debaters chosen for the panel Jury. Great job teams and into more academic achievements FIA team.
